English Premier League

Sunday, 8th February, 16:15 UK Time

Manchester United remain in third place in the Premier League, and look to be on course for a return to Champions League football next season. Whether this is enough to satisfy directors and supporters who have become used to a steady stream of trophies remains to be seen, however. While third place is an improvement on last season, United appear to be a long way off the standards set by Chelsea and the light blue half of Manchester.

Fresh from an easy 3-1 home win over Leicester last weekend, United’s expensively assembled squad head to London’s East End for a game against West Ham. Even when the Red Devils were at the height of their powers they often struggled at Upton Park, and this time around the match is likely to be just as close and just as tense as ever. In the end, however, I think we will see a close away win.

West Ham are a different prospect this season, and manager Sam Allardyce deserves a lot of credit for galvanising a squad that, on paper at least, doesn’t look overly inspiring. At Upton Park, The Hammers are capable of giving anyone a scare, and they will huff and puff on Saturday in a bid to take the points. Manchester United’s front line is so strong, though, and that’s why I think the points will be going back up north.
