English Premier League

Saturday, 7th February, 15:00 UK Time

It seems like Aston Villa haven’t scored a goal since the 1990s, and you get the impression that their players will do a lap of honour the next time they win even a corner. A horrendous performance at Arsenal last weekend saw them succumb to a demoralising 5-0 defeat and yet more discussion about their lack of firepower up front. In truth, however, their performance at The Emirates was just as abysmal at the back and in midfield.

When your side is out of form and struggling to do anything right, the last thing you need is a match against Chelsea. The league leaders come to Villa Park this weekend in good form, and will surely be looking to win the game with something to spare. Even Jose Mourinho, sometimes rightly criticised for being too defensive with a side that cost hundreds of millions of pounds, will almost certainly be tempted to leave the bus behind this week.

If there are any silver linings to be had for Villa, one of them is that Chelsea’s Diego Costa will be suspended. He and Mourinho still maintain that his stamp on Liverpool’s Emre Can was accidental, of course, but then again there are still a few people who think the earth is flat. Even without Costa, however, I can see Chelsea steamrollering Villa for an easy win, and yet more misery for the West Midlands side.

Chelsea to win away to Aston Villa. Grab them at 1.33.
