FA Cup

Saturday, 24th January, 15:00 UK Time

It’s getting a little tedious to keep describing Southampton as a surprise package this season, but Ronald Koeman’s side continue to impress the watching world. Another away victory last Saturday, this time at Newcastle, consolidated their third place in the Premier League table, and I can see them progressing to the next round of the cup with a little to spare this weekend.

In the wind and snow at Turf Moor last week, Crystal Palace came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Burnley, cementing the burgeoning love affair between the fans and their new manager Alan Pardew. With the club still desperately needing points to pull them away from the relegation zone, I think The Eagles may field a somewhat weakened side in the cup. A trip to Wembley may still seem like a holy grail to most supporters, hard-hearted managers and directors tend to see it as less of a priority nowadays.

Needless to say, Koeman may rest a few key Southampton players as well, but the quality of his extended squad suggests they will still have enough to get the win. Many FA Cup games are somewhat stodgy affairs at times, but both of these sides like to attack, so the neutral may enjoy this one.

Southampton to win at home to Crystal Palace. Grab them at 1.61.
