English FA Cup

Saturday, 3rd January, 15:00 UK Time

In a week that finally saw Newcastle United part company with manager Alan Pardew, Leicester City won a league game after 99 days of failure. In truth, Leicester rode their luck for a 1-0 win at Hull, but manager Nigel Pearson won’t lose any sleep about that. His side have had plenty of poor fortune along the way in recent weeks, so when you finally get a break the sensible thing to do is grab it with both hands and don’t ask any questions.

Newcastle have been something of an enigma in recent weeks. The only side so far to beat Chelsea in the league, they have also performed poorly on some occasions. They look, on paper, like the kind of side that can beat anyone and lose to anyone in the space of a few days, so making predictions about them might not be the shrewdest thing to do.

This week, the Magpies fly to Leicester for an all-Premier League tie that could easily go either way. If I was in charge at St James’s Park - I’ve applied for the job but my letter has been ignored so far. It’s probably caught up in the Christmas post at the moment - I would field my strongest possible side. Newcastle won’t be relegated and probably won’t get into Europe. Therefore, the F.A. Cup should be the top priority. I’d make a great manager. Are you reading this, Mike Ashley?

Newcastle United to win away to Leicester City. Grab them at 3.10.
