English Championship
Who: Newcastle v Derby
When: Saturday 4th February, 15.00 UK time

Having failed to QPR in midweek at St James’ Park, Newcastle will be aiming for a return to winning ways at the venue when hosting a Derby team hoping to consolidate their position among the Championship top six positions.

Newcastle were close to completing a 2-1 win against QPR on Wednesday evening before a very late own goal deprived them of all three points and a fourth successive competitive victory on home soil. Although the Magpies have been prone to the odd setback at St James’ Park this term in losing four league matches at the venue, they have netted fourteen goals in four victories on Tyneside since the beginning of December and are offered at 1.80 to win this fixture. A repeat of their 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture is quoted at 7.50.

During the 2-2 draw with QPR in midweek, Matt Ritchie netted for the fourth successive match on home turf and he is available at 4.00 to find the net in a Newcastle victory while being quoted at 6.50 to be First Goalscorer for the third time since late December.

Odds of 3.00 are available for Yoan Gouffran to repeat his goal from the away match at Derby whereas Daryl Murphy is quoted at 2.75 for adding to his three competitive goals this year.

This time last season, Steve McClaren was manager of Newcastle and now he takes his Derby team to St James’ Park fresh from winning 3-0 at Ipswich in midweek. It was a second successive Championship victory for the Rams after they had beaten Reading 3-2 at Pride Park, and they almost claimed an FA Cup win against Leicester before the visitors netted a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw. Odds of 4.60 are available for Derby to register another league victory, and with clean sheets registered in their three away wins in league action since early December, the Rams are offered at 8.00 to claim three points without conceding a goal.

Derby have netted eight goals in the latest three fixtures with Darren Bent scoring in all three matches and he is priced at 8.50 to be First Goalscorer for the third time since Boxing Day plus 7.50 to claim a goal in an away victory.

Craig Bryson can be backed at 7.00 to feature on the score sheet for the third successive match with Tom Ince quoted at 3.50 to net his eleventh goal since the beginning of November.

Newcastle have netted at least twice in the ten of their competitive fixtures on home turf since late September and are offered at 2.00 to score 2 or more goals on Saturday. One and two goal winning margins for the Magpies are available at 3.50 and 5.00 respectively with Derby quoted at 7.00 to win via one clear goal. The Rams have also netted during the opening 45 minutes in their latest three contests and are priced at 2.90 to score more than 0.5 goals in the first half of this game.
