Betting Advice - Football's Most Innovative Bets

With the growth of football betting in recent years, many bookmakers are now devising new coupons to entice the prospective punter. While first goal scorer and long lists have been amongst the traditional coupon, the competition between the ever expanding bookmaking businesses has encouraged these firms to find new ways of betting on football. It has also become noticeable that European matches feature more prominently with more being shown on TV, allowing some firms to introduce special Euro coupons.

Yet some punters would argue that it is difficult to understand some of the novelty coupons, but there are some ingenious ideas which can be profitable and can also create different levels of interest in a match.
'Saturday Yes or No', where punters are offered odds of 33-1 for correctly answering six questions on specific Premier League matches. Recently, one question for a televised game concerned whether QPR would take the last free kick.

'The Outsider' where bonuses are available for selecting the match outsiders in an accumulator. Several bonuses are available culminating up to 100% bonus for a correct 8 fold accumulator.

Among the Ladbrokes coupons, there are two which are very interesting.

For the 'The Safety Net', between five and eight selections are allowed, and payment is guaranteed for one incorrect result. Quite often on a long list one incorrect result spoils the coupon

'Millionaire' which guarantees 10 for the first 5 selections being correct, 1,000 for another 5, 10,000 for 15 and 1,000,000 for all 20. Obviously 20 correct results is very difficult to achieve, but at least there is the opportunity.

William Hill also have two coupons which offer alternatives to the more traditional bet...

'Double Chance' which provides a list of matches where home or draw, home or away, away or draw selections are available. A range of matches are available both in the British Isles and Europe

'Hotshots', where the leading goalscorers of Premier, Championship and Scottish Leagues are in a large list allowing for accumulators on a mix of first, anytime, 2 or more or hat-trick selections.

One of Betfred's innovative coupons is called 'Bundles'. There are up to 15 per coupon which range from 4 to 6 fold accumulators. Selected matches are offered in each bundle, where one recently contained Celtic to beat Rangers, Chelsea to beat QPR, Man City to beat Man Utd and Tottenham to beat Blackburn at total odds of 6-1.

In the case of Paddy Power it is often worth noting their 'Money Back' offers on selected matches. For example for the crucial Manchester derby, they deemed that if Wayne Rooney scored at any time then all losing first scorer, last scorer, correct score and scorecast singles would be refunded.

Stan James have an interesting long list/ goals scored combination where they offer odds on under 2.5 goals and over 2.5 goals for the same match. BetVictor have the unusual bet which covers teams winning both halves with quite generous odds. Again for the Manchester derby Man City were quoted as 13/2 and Man Utd at 16-1.

Among the lesser known bookmaking firms Bet-at-Home have introduced the odd or even variation for forecasting the number of goals on each half. The 'Double Chance' coupon of William Hill is also available on the Tipico, where odds are also offered on the first team to score. Nordic Bet have also introduced a range of individual match permutation bets, the most intriguing being the first team to win three corners.

It would appear that as more football matches worldwide are broadcast on television the range of options for bookmaking firms increases. There are more betting firms on the internet than on the High Street, and it is now very easy to make a swift comparison of prices. As a result bookmakers are introducing more ingenious and appealing ways of betting in the hope of enticing the expanding number of football punters.
